Guildies in WG
WelcomeWelcome to the Smurfs. Inc Guild website! Feel free to look around and drop by our forums!

Established Nov 7, 2007 Smurfs Inc has always been a home for the casual players who seek an atmosphere which is both playful and proffessional.  We strive to be both entertaining and effective whether we are gathering herbs or downing raid bosses.  We do our stuff  and we do it with a smile on our faces.

Things you might not know

If you equip the Eye of Divinity (a 60 raid priest quest item) then you can see the ghost of Ricole Nichie <Ex-Socialite> making rude faces and gestures at Haris Pilton in Shattrath City.

The naga cave on the Isle of Dread off Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas has a secret chamber with a rare (I believe) naga named Princess Szalla. The chamber can be accessed from the pool at the back of the cave.

NPC is http://www.wowhead.com/npc=239

Trinket is http://www.wowhead.com/item=744

Just outside of Goldshire there is a house on Crystal Lake with some skinning trainer and trade supplies women in the lower level. If you go up stairs you will notice the music change into some creepy type of song. Additionally there are sometimes five children there who now stand in the shape of an hour glass, but used to stand in the shape of a pentagram. If you go into the house around 7:40ish a.m. server time and wait five minutes you will hear either a banshee scream, or a voice clip that says "You will die." The voice clip is actually from C'thun, an old raid boss. I believe the soundclips play at 7:45, but I can't recall. I have done this and heard the voice though. Crystal Lake is a reference to the Friday the 13th movies, and an NPC named Jason Mathers is standing on the dock outside.

In dalaran, go upstairs in the cloth gear store and sit in the chair that the gnome is near.  He will shine your shoes.

The dust devils in Westfal drop Magic Dust which can be used to put mobs or flagged players to sleep. It has a low drop rate considering there's a limited number of dust devils

In dun morough there's a cave that if you enter it you enter Silithus's general chat.

If you go just below the dwarf on Thandol Span near Arathi Highlands, you'll find a dwarven corpse crushed by some of the bridge underwater. You won't see a ! above it, but if you right click on the scroll in his hand, it will send you on a very cool questline. It's actually a reference to a letter written by a Civil War soldier and is very very cool. I recommend every Alliance character try and do this chain.  Here's the quest: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=637

There's a gnome sweat shop in the basement of the textiles store on the north end of the western square in Silvermoon City.

Newman's Landing. It's actually where human characters are first created before they are teleported to their starting zone. If you watch the right spot you can see people appear for a flicker before disapearing. Thus "New Man"s landing.

If you go to the NW corner of STV, north of the Zandalar tribe island, you will see a GIANT door in the cliff side. You see the same door from the other side in the Juggernaut's room, deep in the Deadmines.

In Area 51 if you stand by the rocket long enough, a test pilot will come up and recite the lyrics to Elton John's song Rocket Man. :)

During the daily Get Kraken! quest, if you manage to kill the Kraken you'll receive a Kraken Tooth, which starts another daily quest.

Yup. Here He Is!

Guild Changes

Posted by SarissanMarch 5, 2010 at 5:29 pm
In an effort to streamline the guild rank structure and make myself as GM more distingquishable as well as officer ranks, I will be consolidating many of the ranks and removing others.  This may or may not mean the discontinuation of "flavor or joke ranks"

Rank Changes

Guild Master will be held by the toon I am most on at the time, as I have many alts I will change this from time to time, I will however always be identifiable through this rank or the rank of Guild Vanguard.
Guild Vanguard will now hold my alts, as well as all of Fleurr's toons. Essentially this is the co-GM rank
Officers are now housed in one rank, Councellor
Current raid qualified guild members have their own specialized rank with special bank permissions.
Members of the guild in good standing have their own rank.  This rank also allows members to set up their own guild events.
Initiates are now considered the Stoofoo box in addition to being new recruits.  This rank has no bank access but will have guild chat access, and no note access, as well as no access to scheduling guild events.

Bank Changes

The bank has been restructured accordingly

the first 3 tabs are reserved for the benefit of our raiders.

Raid Consumable is for raid consumable items, such as high quality processed food (fish feasts and individual foods that offer better bonuses to specific classes over fish feasts, this is to be kept under control, this is a raid tab not a buffet 2-3 stacks of an item only), high level potions and flasks (runic mana potions, flasks of endless rage and so on)

Raid Enchants is for raid quality enchantments on velums or leg patches/threads, cut epic gems and so on.

Raid QM (Quartermaster) is for ease of supplying tabs 1/2. Raw materials that can be crafted into raid quality consumables, epic gems or enchants are placed in this tab with the epectation that they will be used to create items which will be placed in tabs 1 and 2.  Essentially this tab is to provide a central gathering zone for useful items and facilitate easy trade of useful items between raid qualified members.

Guild QM is reserved for found or crafted via items found in Outland and Northrend.  Items dropping from level 60 (Old world content) and below are not to be placed in this tab.

The fiinal two tabs should only contain armor and weapons as appropriate to the levels designated.

Rule Changes

Guild signatures will no longer be required to stay within the guild but will be required to gain any privilage and be promoted to Member or higher.  Privilages include bank access and permission to set guild events as well as edit public notes.

Text altercations with members inside and outside the guild will be handled in the following manner.  You will screenshot the altercation, you will inform the other party that they may screenshot the altercation and both of you will send the screenshots to Sarissan.hunter@hotmail.com   This provides proof of both sides of the altercation.  If you feel you must defend yourself, do so in a polite and diffusing manner, do not provoke and escalate the situation.  Once I have the evidence I will either disregard the complaint if it is invalid or take action as a appropriate per our standing guild rules.

Specifics on guild bank access: no sig no access, or demoted in accordance with guild rules means no temporary access until your rank is restored.  Items will not be given out to anyone in the Initiate rank.  If they want the item they may sign the guild rules and be promoted to member to get it themselves.

As a reminder, all characters not known to be signed on the guild rules will now be considered initiates until someone claims the alt as their own and marks it via public notes.  Once an officer marks the character as your alt in officer notes we will place an "$" in your guild note, you may then edit your guild note as much as you like.

Raiding

The new raiding system will go as follow. To get an invite to ICC 10 you must be able to do 5k dps in ToC 10 on Anub or Beasts of Northrend. Healers must be able to do 2.5k healing to 3k healing in ToC 10 depending on the role to attend ICC. They must also be able to heal H HoR with a tank and dps of my choice this will show me what you can do. Tanks must be able to tank ToC 10 and must be able to tank H HoR with a healer and dps of my choice. Even then tanks will have trouble getting in due to the fact that we need a MT and an AoE tank so plz gear up your offset that way you have 2 options. If you cannot attend the sunday raid download recount (dps meter) and pug ToC 10, record your dps on the fights listed above and link the "current fight" meter to Acile to show me. If you must erase it screen shot it. When you get an invite to ICC 10 you will be competing with other people for the spots. It goes as follows 1 MT, 1 AoE tank, 2 Melee Dps (hunters count as melee), 3 ranged dps (casters), a MT healer, a utility healer, and a raid healer. First sign up goes unless one of theses key roles are not filled if not then someone will get priority over you. In the raid you might be asked to step out due to class/spec this is so we can progress and should not be taken personally. Theses are the minimum requirements for ICC 10. Remenber just because you got in doesnt mean that you can get away with things in that raid it is intense and will require people to play at their best and make changes but i hope to see everyone on that list soon :).

All of you I really am very impressed and proud of you.  Over the past month I have seen really great effort to help eachother out, and really outstanding performance in our raiding.

Three weeks ago was our first attempt at ToC (10) and you we're able to down the first set of 3 bosses with very little effort, and downed Onyxia in 2-3 attempts (I can't remember anymore but good job)

Two weeks ago you upped the ante and stacked another two bosses on to that, and downed Onyxia in two attempts.

This week you raised the bar again got the Twins down, and one shotted Onyxia with myself as an inexperienced and somewhat of a surprise tank.  (Hawkie no more getting accidentally saved :P )

The past two weeks we have even been able to do full guild run VoA's before raids.

All of this in summery I really have to say way to go!  For a casual guild that happens to raid we really sure have picked up our raiding game and as far as small guilds go I really think we are on top in our server.  We really have shined in this past month and shown that casual raiders can really have a blast raiding.  Keep up the good work let's see if we can full clear ToC next week to keep up our trend.

Let's Get Back on Track

Posted by SarissanOctober 15, 2009 at 5:34 am
To be blunt about things, lately I've been pretty stressed out as a GM.  And a lot of our members have been as well.  I think  that if we keep up this way we are in danger of losing eachother, all of what we worked for as a guild, as friends and as family.  The point is we care about eachother, and it would be a shame for us to fall apart.  There are some of us who need to work on our raiding skills, and others who have personal problems in their lives at this point.  I'd like us all to work on our own respective problems and help eachother as well.   Essentially as the famous Tom Cruise line goes "Help me, Help you".  We need to become more open and honest with eachother and with ourselves.

For those of us who are rusty raiders.  It is ok, this happens from time to time, but you have to recognize it and work on it.  Every time your character dies think of what happened to cause that death.

AGRO!  How early in the fight did you die?  If it was within the first 20 seconds of the fight, you out agroed the tank.   You can stop this by waiting the traditional 3-5 seconds before attacking the target (to give the tank enough time to build agro).  Up to about the 10 second point you should be doing only light dps.  At  10 seconds and more you can usually open up to your normal rotations.  Further into the fight you need to occasionally check your agro meters, they are now built into WoW there is no excuse.  If you know you pull a lot of agro check them more frequently, there may be times when you hit a very nice crit streak and generate more agro than expected (Locks, and Mages are famous classes for this).  Be familiar with your class and know what your agro drop tools are, and USE THEM.  Hunters use Feign Death, Locks have Soulshatter, Priests have Fade, Pallies can self bubble (Tony knows how to do this, additionally I'm pretty sure Druids are screwed, you can try shadowmelding and praying...).  Try to remember DPS is responsible for their own lives, healers are going to be focusing on the tanks.  Help both of them out by keeping agro on the tanks, hit what the tank is hitting, if you do get agro on a mob stop hitting it and run toward the tank you pulled it from, or preferably use your agro drop.  If it helps bind an easy to reach key to your agro drop...like the F key for "F*** I have agro"  Heck you can even be creative and put in a yell macro maybe something like:

#showtooltips
/Cast Feign Death
/y I haz an AgRO! I don' want it! U can Haz Bak!

Random Deaths, first of all usually it's not random.  After you die from a random death consider the options of how you died.  Did you have agro?  We're you standing in something you shouldn't?  Are you melee and standing in front of a mob?  Are you a Cloth wearer standng unecessarely close to the mobs rather than in the back?  Always consider what killed you and what you can do to help that, don't forget there are usually ways you can save yourself, most of them probably aren't on your toolbar, so please check your spellbook.

Getting back to the personal side of stuff.  All of you are my friends and I really think this guild is worth putting the effort into.  It's going to take a lot but we need to get back on track and we should consider building up to a slightly larger guild.  I would like us to get up to 25 man status again but I want it done with all of you present with more friends and not just people who can play their characters well.

*Well said. The only thing I would add is that for the death's situation, check the combat log to find out exactly HOW you died and don't just guess. Raiding is a team sport and everyone needs to put forth the effort for the whole team to succeed. I love you all and I fully agree that our guild is worth saving and keeping together :) Also, please remember that Sarissan is the Guild Leader and has NOTHING to do with putting the raids together. Tony, is the raid leader, if you have ANY raiding questions or comments, please forward them to him.

Brewfest

Posted by SarissanSeptember 22, 2009 at 12:59 am
The following is from a forum post I made on the official wow forums, which is originally linked here.  The simplified version is on my blog at http://sarissan.wordpress.com/

(New content edited into the bottom of post, thanks to contributors/repliers to original post, It is doable, just not obviously doable, good luck to all of you out there.  The original post has been left up to stress the importance of doing the "hidden" repeatable "daily" which is apparently on a 12 hour timer)

Ok so it's day 2 of Brewfest I currently have 138 tokens, I would have had 140 if i didn't spend 2 getting an achievement (cheaply turning my mount into a Brewfest mount)

On the first day of Brewfest I got 113 tokens

On the second day I got 25 tokens

At this rate by the end of Brewfest IF I do all of the dailies every day for the remaining 12 days I will obtain a total of 440 minus the 2 I spent on the Brewfest Mount Achivement

The required amount of tokens to get the meta in one year is as follows, 200 for membership, 350 for clothing, and 2 (minimum) for the cheap Brewfest mount herb thingy...the total for this is a wopping 552 required tokens

Are there more than 2 quests on the second and following days? Because with the only two I could find at Brewfest I recieved 25 tokens, 10 for the Cog that appears, and 15 for the Brew advertising.

I have read that you can return the clothes so you can buy the membership after, but isn't that sort of an abuse of an in game mechanic? should we really have to resort to that.  It seems to me also that there are fewer daily quests than there were last year, is this a reset issue?

EDIT:
The Brewfest Keg transporting quest is repeatable but is not a quest, the NPC simply has a dialogue that lets you transport kegs for 2 tokens per keg, the route is the same as the original quest.  Notes on this are that when you successfully transport a keg you get 30 seconds added on to your mount and that there are barrels of apples along the path that will remove the fatigue like debuff on your mount so you can whip it more.
